What are the costs of automated guided vehicle (AGV) systems?

The cost of automated guided vehicle systems varies significantly and cannot be generalized. The price often quoted for an individual mobile transport robot does not reflect the comprehensive costs of an entire project, which depend heavily on specific project requirements. Below, we provide a detailed overview of the various cost factors involved in an automation project using mobile robots.

How is the price for an AGV project composed?

Our approach to manufacturing transport robots involves producing them in series and equipping them only with the technology necessary for the intended tasks. This strategy not only keeps equipment costs competitive but also ensures a technical availability rate exceeding 99%.
It is important to understand that the cost of an individual robot does not fully represent the overall project costs. The project costs also encompass commissioning, integration into existing processes, and any necessary planning and implementation.
Therefore, it is essential to consider the total cost of the project to get a realistic estimate of the investment required. Several factors influence these costs, including:

• the type and complexity of the transportation task
• robot models and quantity
• required accessories
• infrastructure adjustments
• services

Given these variables, it is impossible to provide a universal price or fixed cost estimates. Below, we break down our services that contribute to the overall project costs.

The cost of mobile transport robots varies depending on the model and functions. SAFELOG offers a choice of models from the SAFELOG S3, M4, X1 and L2 series. The price range starts at €20,000 for the basic version of the S3 (Image: © SAFELOG).

Depending on the task and deployment scenario, the models of the SAFELOG S3, M4, X1 and L2 series are available. The price range starts at € 20,000 for the basic version of the SAFELOG S3. Additional costs may be incurred for extra features, such as auxiliary batteries or advanced localization and navigation systems.

Accessories

Another crucial factor in calculating the total price of AGVs is the range of configuration options available, depending on the specific project requirements. In the automation industry, this often includes integration capabilities with external peripheral systems, such as elevators, fire protection gates, and robot cells. Additionally, a variety of process- or project-specific modifications are available for mobile transport robots, which can be added depending on the project’s needs. These configuration options are influenced by the type of transport aids (e.g., trolleys) or load carriers (e.g., pallets) used, as well as the nature of the goods being transported.

Software

All of our AGVs come standard with the SAFELOG IntelliAgent fleet manager. This agent-based software allows the mobile transport robots to communicate with each other in a swarm, facilitating efficient and fail-safe process automation without the need for a central control center. The system works seamlessly whether the fleet includes just two or several hundred vehicles. Regular software updates ensure that even older generations of AGVs remain current with the latest advancements.

Additionally, optional enhancements such as the SAFELOG AGV Live App are available. This application allows for real-time monitoring of individual vehicles and enables automated service requests, further increasing operational efficiency and responsiveness.

Service

After successful implementation and commissioning, our support for our customers continues uninterrupted. Our after-sales concept includes three distinct maintenance service packages designed to meet the diverse needs of our clients: Basic, Standard, and Premium. Each maintenance contract ensures ongoing support and access to our expertise, regardless of the level chosen.
